Russell Eugene Springs, 67, of Gonzales, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015 at Gonzales Memorial Hospital.

Russell was born on July 24, 1947 in Houston. He was the son of BJ and Rose Marie (Godby) Springs. Russell was an Eagle Scout. After graduating from high school in Houston, Russell attended the University of Houston, earning his Bachelor of Science in Technology and Masters Degree in Business Administration. He worked for Gonzales County as a probation officer until his retirement.

He liked to relax by reading and also designed and made jewelry. He was a former member of the Lions Club of Gonzales and a supporter and actor for the Crystal Theater. He was a member of the Abiding Word Lutheran Church and the prison ministry, KAIROS.

He is survived by his mother, Rose Springs; son, Benjamin Jason Springs of Houston; daughter, Heather Dawn Springs and her significant other, Will Simmons of Ft. Worth; grandchildren, McKenzie Springs, Christopher Davis, Noah Springs, Savana Simmons and Megan Simmons; niece, Shanna Cox; nephew, Shea Cox; and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, BJ Springs; and sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Greg Cox.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, March 28 at 2 p.m. at Abiding Word Lutheran Church, 1310 Saint Louis St. in Gonzales with Pastor Kyle Backhaus officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the memorial service at a reception to be held at Russell’s home at 1203 Saint Lawrence St. in Gonzales.
