Hugh Mack Carmichael

Hugh Mack Carmichael, 95, of Waelder, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2015. He was born Dec. 8, 1919 in Wadsworth, Texas, the son of John and Verdie Carmichael.

After high school Hugh joined the U.S. Air Force and served his country for the next 27 years. He was stationed worldwide serving in Thailand, Japan, Okinawa, England and across the United States at various bases. He retired in 1969. 

Upon his military retirement, he worked for Schneck Aviation in San Antonio as a helicopter inspector for several years and retired in 1982. He married Irma Mae Toler on Aug. 26, 1950 at the Langley AFB in Virginia. She passed away June 20, 2007. 

He enjoyed raising cattle, fishing, hunting and raising catfish on the family farm. He was a gardener and also grafted pecan trees. Most of all he loved spending time with his sons, grandchildren and his great-granddaughter. 

He is survived by his sons, Dwight Carmichael and wife Daretia and their children Stewart and Leah Carmichael, all of Great Falls, Va., Donald Carmichael and wife Terry and their children Kaitlyn, Brianna and Rory Carmichael and granddaughter Zoey Bustillos, all of San Antonio, Dale Allen Carmichael and wife Debbie and their children Ashley and Christopher Carmichael all of San Diego, Calif.; sisters, June Richards of Gonzales, Virginia Hallmark and husband Bill of Gonzales and Estelle Overstreet of Fort Worth. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Dennis Carmichael; sisters, Dorothy Wright, Mary Jane Carmichael and Rebecca French and brother John R. Carmichael. 

Visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 25 from 12- 2 p.m. with funeral services being held at 2 p.m. at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Reverend Andy Smith officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the United States Air Force will follow at the Thompsonville Cemetery. Pallbearers include Stewart Carmichael, Rory Carmichael, Christopher Carmichael, Jeff Heubaum, Lee Pridemore and Mike Warneke.
