Warren James Baker, 82, of Gonzales, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015 at his residence.

Funeral services are under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales and will be held on Monday, April 27 at 2 p.m. at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Moulton City Cemetery in Moulton. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 26 from noon until 5 p.m. at Buffington Funeral Home.

Warren was born Feb. 8, 1933 in Houston. He was the son of James and Myrtle (Alexander) Baker. Warren served in the US Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Brush. While serving our country, he married Vana Ann Hefner on Sept. 12, 1952 at Kashmere Baptist Church in Houston.

He obtained his Masters Degree in Education and was a teacher for Gonzales ISD for 35 years. He also served as the minister for Moulton Baptist Church in Moulton. He was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying air planes. He liked to ride his motorcycle with his club, the Retreads. He enjoyed taking care of his vegetable and flower gardens and watching birds. He would set up the pool in the summer so the kids could swim. He also raised honey bees.

Warren is survived by sons, Warren Baker, Jr. and his wife, Peggy of Monthalia and John Baker and his wife, Shirley of Harwood; daughter, Catherine Swieter and her husband, Eric of Austin; sister, Mildred Beaman of Houston; brother, Roger Baker of Houston; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Myrtle Baker and an infant daughter, Myrna Lou Baker.
