Billy Gene Massie

Billy Gene Massie, born June 3, 1925, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2015. Billy was the son of Otto and Leora Massie and was born and raised in Hereford, Texas.

After graduating high school in Hereford he joined the Navy and then attended accounting school in Austin. He married Viola Beckman on Nov. 11, 1948. Billy and Viola lived in Hereford with their three sons until they moved to Gonzales where he became office manager for Harrell Cattle Co. 

He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Grand Lodge and a member of the local VFW Post 4817. Billy always worked hard and provided for his family. 

He is preceded in death by his son Timothy; parents, Otto and Leora; brother, Clinton; and sister, Lorraine. “Pop” is survived by his wife, Viola of 66 years; sons, Jeff and his wife Sammie and Scott and his wife Erin; sister-in-law, Mary Deck; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  A memorial mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales on April 25 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity.
