Robert Dean “Bob” Spoon, 80, of Gonzales, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015.  Robert was born Nov. 10, 1934 in Sperry, Okla. to James and Marie Kooyers Spoon. He married Shirley Jean Iley on May 20, 1977 in Victoria. Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church. 

Bob grew up in the Victoria area. After graduating from high school he went to work for a short period before serving in the U.S. Army. After he was honorably discharged, Bob went to work for Shell Oil as a purchasing agent and retired after 30 years of loyal service.

Bob enjoyed playing golf and being outdoors. He found peace in tending to his lawn and keeping his garden. He loved to read a good book and traveled on a few occasions with his wife, but clearly preferred to live life Bob’s way, taking each day one at a time and making the best of it. He adored his children and grandchildren and cherished his time spent together with family.

Robert Dean “Bob” Spoon is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Shirley Jean Spoon of Gonzales; children, Kimberly Ann Spoon and Nancy Jo Spoon of Victoria, Carol Ann Simmons and her husband Jarvis of Gainesville and Thomas Scott Caskey and his wife Terri of Trophy Club; sister, Charlotte Riley of Bryan and devoted grandchildren, Blake Spoon and T.K. Caskey. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his former wife, Martha Fose.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 in Gonzales Memorial Park with Pastor Andy Smith officiating. In lieu of usual remembrances memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675. Services are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, 906 St. Paul, Gonzales, Texas 78629.
