Waelder ISD selects middle school principal as new superintendent

Waelder Independent School District (WISD) school board named Daniel Fuller, Waelder ISD’s middle school principal, as the lone finalist for superintendent. State law requires the district to wait 21 days before voting to hire Fuller. He will fill the seat vacated by Mark Weisner in April. Interim Superintendent Michael Lanier will continue to serve until the board decision becomes final.

WISD administration said Fuller was selected after a lengthy process, going back to April, when they hired Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services to direct the search.

“TASB consultants did a staff and community survey to determines desired characteristics of the new superintendent,” WISD Secretary Linda Beale said. “The profile developed from meetings and surveys was the yardstick used by the board and consultants in evaluating the applicants for the position.”

Initially, WISD selected four applicants for interviews— with two coming back for a second interview.  The board anticipates offering a contract to Fuller on Aug. 17.

WISD hired Fuller in August 2014 as its middle school principal. Prior to his arrival in Waelder, he was Assistant Principal at Odessa High School in Ector County Independent School District, a 3,000-student campus.
