Voting to determine who will be honored as the first-ever Gonzales County Pioneering Woman begins Monday, Oct. 29, via The Gonzales Inquirer website.

Balloting will continue until 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1. The results will be announced at a special ceremony Saturday, Nov. 3, at Pioneer Village Living History Center.

Finalists for the inaugural recognition are Dr. Cathy Booth, Marjorie Burnett, Lillian Fernandez, Sherry Poe and Suzanne Sexton.

The finalists were selected by a review committee from a list of 18 nominations made through The Gonzales Inquirer Facebook page. Nominations were accepted Sept. 30 through Oct. 7.

The awareness and recognition campaign salutes modern-day women pioneers who have forged the way for others in their professions and those whose lives they’ve touched.

The first Gonzales County Pioneering Women Day kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, offering women of the area an opportunity to shop, eat and visit the many booths full of natural or handmade beauty, fashion and home decorating items.

A wine tasting will also occur at the event from noon-2 p.m.

All five finals will be recognized during the devent, and the woman receiving the most votes will be revealed at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Village.

A $5 donation to Pioneer Village will be accepted from all those attending the day’s activities and shopping.

The event is sponsored by Pioneer Village and The Gonzales Inquirer.
