Passed out man found at drive-thru

GONZALES — A Louisiana man faces DWI charges after officers said he passed out in his truck at the McDonalds drive-thru and told them he was on the Texas-Oklahoma border.

At 11:40 p.m. Nov. 2, Officer Trey Tunis was dispatched to McDonald’s in reference to a report of a man sleeping in his vehicle while in the drive-thru lane, Capt. Allen Taylor reported.

Upon arrival Tunis spotted the vehicle — a Nissan truck — with its engine on and in drive in the drive-thru.

The officer looked through the window and saw an open beer can. He noticed that the driver was asleep with his foot on the brake. Officer Ryan Salles arrived on the scene to assist.

Officers put the truck in park and turned the engine off, and were eventually able to awaken the driver. He was identified as Joseph Neal Page, 30, of Robeline, LA. While speaking with Page officers noticed he was slurring.

When asked if he knew where he was, he said he was somewhere between Texas and Oklahoma, Taylor said. He also said there were other people with him in the vehicle, but officers did not see anyone. When they asked him where they were, Page said he had actually dropped them off in Lubbock two hours earlier, Taylor said.

Officers conducted a field sobriety test which indicated Page was intoxicated, and he was arrested. He was taken to Gonzales County Jail and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Case of knife-wielding man under investigation

At 10:35 p.m. Nov. 6, Officer Jonathan Lorton was dispatched to a business in the 600 block of St. Paul in reference to a man with a knife. While en route Lorton learned from the dispatcher that the complainant had already left the scene, and that the man with the knife was still at the location.

After arriving at the scene, Lorton was unable to find anyone matching the man’s description, and no one he spoke with recalled any incident. Lorton went to the complainant’s residence, and the complainant informed him he and his wife had been threatened earlier with a knife by the man while at the business. They also told police they intended to press charges, Taylor said.

The case was forwarded to the county attorney’s office, according to Taylor.

Man assaults girlfriend, prevents 9-1-1 call

At 6:08 p.m. Nov. 8, Officer Salles, along with other officers, was dispatched to the 3300 block of Hwy. 90A in reference to a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. Upon arrival Salles spoke with the victim, who said her boyfriend had run out the back door when they pulled up. Salles searched the area for the man, but was unable to find him, Taylor said.

The victim went to the police department and gave a statement, saying she intended to press charges. She also said he had hit her in the chest, and that when she tried to call 9-1-1 he took the phone away from her.

Taylor said the case is under investigation, and that charges of assault family violence and interfering with an emergency phone call will be filed.
