Johnnie Fay Parr, 95, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009. She was born June 8, 1913 in Gonzales County to John Powell and Mary Alma Herlet Helms. Fay as she was known throughout her lifetime, attended school in Monthalia and graduated from New Braunfels High School, class of ‘31’. After graduation Fay returned to Monthalia where she married Max William Pape in 1933.

They had four children together. After his death in 1956, Fay married W.O. Philippus in 1957. Mr. Philippus passed away in 1968 and Fay married Luther Parr in 1970. Mr. Parr passed away in 1981. In addition to her parents and husbands, Fay was preceded in death by her sister, Lucille Helms Rust and brothers Arthur and James Helms.

Fay had been a member of the Hallettsville First United Methodist Church, years ago she had been active with the Home Demonstrations Club in Gonzales, Fay had played the piano in the Monthalia Assembly of God Church for many years and had worked with Polio stricken children at Warm Springs Hospital.

She loved to garden and maintained a productive vegetable garden and grew beautiful flowers. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Beth and Ray Cowey of Gonzales, sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Lee and Carolyn Pape of Butler, KY, Calvin George and Selma Pape of Austin, Jimmie Lynn and June Pape of Hurst, grandchildren, Sherry Witten, Lavanda Gillum, Gretchen Crigler, Jeffrey Louis Pape and Jason Lawrence Pape and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday April 27, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Seydler-Hill Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Irwin officiating. Interment followed in the Gonzales City Cemetery.

The family had received friends at the funeral home Sunday evening. Memorials may be made to Norma’s House, 307 St. Lawrence, Gonzales 78629 or Monthalia United Methodist Church 1926 County Rd 112 Cost,Texas 78614-4560.

Funeral services were under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, 906 St. Paul, Gonzales, Texas, 830-672-3232.
