Nixon skeptical about waste billing

The city of Nixon continues to struggle with uncertainty over whether it should go with a new recycling plan.

The uncertainty is over a third party that wants to handle all billing.

PABS Management, Inc. is a company that wants to “take the load off Nixon’s back” by handling all billing and transactions between the city of Nixon and Allied Waste, which currently handles the city’s solid waste disposal and possibly their future recycling.

“If we want to proceed with this plan, we would need to sign an authorization of agreement,” said city administrator George Blanch. “We need to decide what we’re going to do.”

“I’m a little bit leery of this,” said councilman Hector Dominguez. “I’m not comfortable with someone else handling our bills.”

Dominguez also expressed concerns over other cities as references for the same recycling plan. Since no results have been reported in regards to cities similar in size to Nixon, Dominguez and all other council members are still apprehensive.

“The only one listed was Plano,” he said. “Plano and Nixon are nowhere near the same size.

“We are going to continue to look into this matter before we make any decisions.”
