GONZALES — A local man ended up in county jail after officers said he attacked his cousin and punched him several times in the head and face.

At 11:26 a.m. May 19, Officer Victor Izaguirre was dispatched to the 1800 block of Qualls St. in reference to an assault family violence call, Capt. Allen Taylor said. Upon arrival Izaguirre spoke with the victim, who said he had gotten into an argument with his cousin — James Matthew Garner. The man said Garner had punched him four or five times in the head and face.

The officer noticed injuries consistent with the victim’s account of the incident, and spoke with several witnesses.

Taylor said Garner called police from his mother’s house and told them of the incident, and that if they needed to talk to them he would meet them at the police department. Officers instructed him to do so, and when he arrived he confessed to the beating. Garner, 29, of Gonzales, was arrested and taken to Gonzales County Jail. He is charged with assault family violence.

Bullard man crashes into gas pump, arrested for DWI

At 12:08 a.m. May 12, Officer Ryan Salles was dispatched to the Lexington Circle K, where a vehicle had crashed into a gas pump. After arriving at the scene the officer saw the damaged pump and a black Ford F-250 parked in front of the store. Salles identified the driver as Gary Dave Alsobrook, 52, of Bullard.

While questioning Alsobrook the officer noticed he had bloodshot eyes, and could smell alcohol on his breath. Alsobrook admitted to crashing into the fuel pump, Taylor said.

Officers conducted a field sobriety test that indicated Alsobrook was too drunk to drive, and he was arrested and taken to Gonzales County Jail. Because Alsobrook has been arrested multiple times for driving while intoxicated, he is charged with felony DWI.
