After three weeks of country, western and zany musical highlights, the Main Street Concert Series goes with the squeezebox set this Friday evening with David Lee Garza y Los Musicales.

A 30-year professional of progressive Conjunto and Tejano musical styles, Garza counts a loyal following amongst his fans. His crossover appeal is evident with his successful collaborations with country artists like Kevin Fowler, Cory Morrow and Johnny Bush.

Garza and his group are no stranger from the road, appearing at dances and festivals almost non-stop. Their string of hits include “Con El Tiempo,” “Hey Davis Who’s That Gringo” and “Cuatro Caminos.” He is considered a household name in the Tejano music community.

Garza was raised in Poteet where he got his accordion chops from his father. He formed his first group there, called David Lee y Su Conjunto. Now, the Musicales are a family band with his two brothers on board covering bass duties and drums.

The band, which has over 30 recorded albums spanning two major labels, also counts many members who have gone on to start their own influential Tejano bands. They include Ramiro “Ram” Herrera, Emilio Navaira, Oscar G, Jay Perez, Marcos Orozco and Ben Ozuna. Current lead vocalist Cezar Martinez brings his youthful style to the group utilizing his young and exciting sound.

This week’s concert is the fourth in the series of summer shows this month produced by the Main Street Concert Series. Admission is free and the music begins at 7 p.m. Lawn chairs and good vibes are welcome.
