Local man jail for public intoxication

GONZALES — A local man was jailed after police said he got drunk, tried to beat up his wife and managed to sneak out of his brother’s home after being told to stay there.

At 1:50 a.m. Aug. 23, Sgt. Dewey Sumner was dispatched to the 2400 block of Church St. to assist Officer Victor Izaguirre with a family disturbance, Capt. Allen Taylor reported. Upon arrival, Sumner spoke with a male subject, identified as John Michael Sepulveda, 33, of Gonzales, and his wife (the victim), who said Sepulveda had tried to physically assault her. Officers noticed that Sepulveda appeared to be intoxicated and, since he was on private property, transported him to his brother’s residence at the Monte Vista apartment complex.

Despite officer’s warnings that he would be arrested for public intoxication if he left the apartment, Sepulveda opted to do so anyway. Watching from a block away, Sumner turned his patrol car around and stopped Sepulveda— then arrested him and took him to Gonzales County Jail.
