The Gonzales Inquirer has been recognized twice over by the Gonzales ISD for its relationship with the school system and its coverage of school news.

The 2012 Media Honor Roll, a program sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), recognizes media representatives from more than 450 statewide newspapers, radio and television stations, and online publications.

Inquirer publisher Brenda Adams and sports editor Jason Chlapek were named to the GISD media honor roll by the school board trustees at their Monday meeting.

Criteria for the district selection included efforts by the media to get to know the superintendent, board president, and the district’s mission and goals; report school news in a fair, accurate and balanced manner; give a high profile to positive news about schools; visit the schools; and maintain a policy of no surprises by sharing information with school officials.

“It is an honor to bring the resolution naming Brenda Adams and Jason Chlapek to the TASB Media Honor Roll,” said GISD superintendent Dr. Kim Strozier. “The resolution expresses the appreciation for a responsible and supportive approach to reporting the news. Through these efforts, the entire community is supporting in promoting the best school system for our district children.”

TASB is a nonprofit organization established in 1949 to serve local Texas school districts. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 4.8 million students.
