Fatal crash closes Highway 80 at FM 466

A second fatal accident in a month closed state Highway 80 at FM 466 Thursday evening.

At about 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Gonzales County EMS along with Belmont Volunteer Fire Department personnel, Gonzales County Sheriff's deputies and Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a crash involving an 18-wheeler and a passenger vehicle. An AirLIFE helicopter was launched to the scene, and the Justice of the Peace was summoned.

Initial indications are that a small pickup failed to stop at a stop sign on FM 466 and was hit by an 18-wheeler traveling on Highway 80. This is the same intersection where another fatal accident occurred on June 3 when a pickup apparently ran a stop sign and broadsided another pickup.

Watch for coverage of this accident in the Aug. 7 issue of The Gonzales Inquirer.
