GONZALES — A man and a woman ended up in jail after officers said the woman attacked some cars with a golf club because her ex-boyfriend had punched her in the back of the head.

At 3:44 p.m. Sept. 12, officers arrived near the intersection of Robertson and Sycamore streets in reference to a woman damaging vehicles with a golf club, Capt. Allen Taylor reported. Officer Ryan Salles identified the woman as Latorie Erskin, 39, of Gonzales. While speaking with officers Erskin appeared to be enraged and was yelling, with the golf club still in her hand. She told officers she had been physically assaulted by her ex-boyfriend (who was also the father of her son). Salles took the club away from her, Taylor said.

A witness at the scene showed officers a cell phone video taken at the scene showing Erskin damaging the vehicle. Because Erskin continued yelling and using profanity, she was detained for disorderly conduct. As officers continued their discussion with the witness, Erskin started arguing with the ex-boyfriend, identified as Randum Darrell Green, Taylor said.

Erskin further explained to officers that her son had earlier approached Green asking him for money, and that an argument between the two had ensued. During the incident, Green, 37, of Gonzales, punched her in the back of the head.

Green was arrested and taken to Gonzales County Jail, charged with assault family violence. Erskin was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Man resists arrest, gets jailed anyway

At 7:20 p.m. Sept. 16, Officer Gabriel Trevino was dispatched to the 1300 block of Dallas Street in reference to an illegally parked truck. Upon arrival, Trevino found the vehicle parked west of the intersection of Dallas and Robertson Streets. While checking the officer was checking the vehicle, the driver, Melvin Lee Allen, 61, of Gonzales, approached him. He said his truck had run out of gas.

While speaking with Allen, Trevino noticed the smell of alcohol on his breath, as well as bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and stumbling. When the officer tried to arrest Allen for public intoxication, however, Allen pushed him away. Allen continued to fight against officers as they tried to handcuff him, Taylor said.

Officers were eventually able to get Allen into the patrol car. Upon arrival at Gonzales County Jail he continued resisting arrest by shoving jailers. He was placed in a restraint chair and later booked on charges of public intoxication and resisting arrest.
