City council to listen to citizens on sound ordinance

GONZALES — In response to public complaints about the enforcement of the city’s sound ordinance, officials are ready to lend an ear and attempt to compose rules better governing noise complaints in Gonzales.

Several homeowners near downtown music venues Running M Bar & Grill and Templin Saloon spoke at the city council meeting earlier this month about the loss of the quality of life they said they had experienced because of nighttime music.

The business owners responded, stating the compromises they had made to the residents’ concerns and pleaded for the council to hear them out. They did not want their thriving businesses shuttered because of dallying decibels.

The city council has listened and is giving all interested parties a chance to speak up during a public hearing on the matter scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. at city hall. The meeting will act as a workshop to attempt to find a balance between the sides.

The results from the meeting will likely be voted on during the October city council meeting.

Those with concerns over loud music, quiet time, leaf blowers, feed mills, industrial plants, airplanes, drones, crowd noise and downtown festival fare should attend the meeting to add their input to the deafening roar.
