HEB donates $2,000 to Come & Take It Festival

HEB Store Manager Dave Epley presented Chamber Board President John Raeke with a check for $2,000 from the HEB Food Stores as a sponsor of the Come & Take It Festival, while C&TI Chairman Carlos Camarillo looks on. This increases their past contributions by an extra thousand, which is greatly appreciated by both the chamber and Come & Take It.

The rain was very much appreciated, no matter how much fell in any spot in our county and area. We’ll take what we are given and be very thankful for it.

Rainfall amounts ranged from 4 inches in the western part to 1 inch around the city, but everything greened up immediately, showing how much rainfall can beat mere watering of lawns and flowers.

Two members of the Crystal Theatre’s Shakespeare Ninja Troop will perform with other young people from around the world on Gonzales’s Crystal Theatre stage in their home town. Johnny Palacios and Dillon Segundo were chosen to attend Camp Shakespeare on full scholarship, by UT professor Dr. James Ayres, founding director of the Winedale program.

Two new Port Aransas ferries, named after former TxDOT executive directors, were dedicated in a special ceremony held Friday. They will be in operation July 1, expanding the Port Aransas System fleet from six to eight. This service connects Mustang Island and Port Aransas with the mainland via Aransas Pass and it runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new boats carry up to 28 passenger cars, compared to 20 on the older boats. They currently carry an average of 4,000 to 11,000 vehicles daily.

The Chamber office and Old Jail Museum will be closed for July 4.

Don’t forget the Star Spangled Spectacular on July 4 with Jake Hooker and The Outsiders at the J. B. Wells Show Barn. Fireworks start at 9:15 if we have them.

Bar J Team Roping will be held Friday at the J. B. Wells Park, with South Texas Tour Team Roping there on Saturday and Sunday.
