GONZALES — A local woman ended up behind bars recently after allegedly attempting to run over her husband, officials reported.

On Jan. 29, Officer Dewey Sumner was dispatched to the Gonzales Auction Barn on Hwy 183 South in reference to a disturbance, Chief Tim Crow reported. Upon arrival, Sumner found Melinda Sue Johnson, 35, of Gonzales, standing next to the driver’s side door of an SUV. The vehicle’s rear window had been smashed out, Crow said.

Eyewitnesses on the scene (including the victim, who was Johnson’s husband) told Sumner Johnson had tried to run the victim over with the vehicle. Johnson was then arrested and taken to Gonzales County Jail. She is charged with aggravated assault.

On Jan. 31, Investigator Jason Montoya responded to a call at the 1300 block of Cavett St. in reference to an assault. Upon arrival Montoya learned that a 14-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted.

During the investigation, Montoya obtained statements from witnesses and a confession from Daniel Jay Morales, 21, of Gonzales. Morales was arrested on Feb. 1 and taken to Gonzales County Jail. He is charged with sexual assault.

Salomon Chavez, 36, of Gonzales, was arrested and taken to Gonzales County Jail after an incident last July involving the alleged sexual assault of a child. On July 23, Investigator Jason Montoya was dispatched to Norma’s House in reference to said assault, which involved a girl under the age of 13. Montoya learned that Chavez had sexually assaulted the child on several occasions, and during the subsequent investigation the officer obtained a warrant for Chavez’s arrest. On Jan. 31, Chavez was found in Shiner and arrested on the warrant. He is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.
