HARWOOD — Two people ended up behind bars last week after allegedly breaking into and stealing property from a home, officials say.

At 4:54 p.m. Feb. 19, Officer Ryan Salles was dispatched to 3200 FM 794 (Harwood Road) in reference to a burglary in progress. The caller told dispatch that the subjects were a man and a woman in a white truck heading south on Harwood Road, Capt. Allen Taylor said.

While en route, Salles learned that sheriff’s deputies had stopped the truck in the 2600 block of Harwood Road. Officers Trey Tunis and John Lorton also joined in the investigation.

Salles drove to the address and spoke with the victim, who said she had seen her brother, identified as Kenneth Wade Hill, 41, of Thomaston, at his truck, with doors open, beside her garage.

As the victim called GPD to inform them of this, Hill and his passenger, identified as Kimberly Watts Turk, 42, of Gonzales, drove away.

When police stopped Hill, they discovered items in the bed of his truck matching the descriptions of those taken without permission from the victim’s home, Taylor said. Hill and Turk were then arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation, and taken to Gonzales County Jail.

At 9:12 p.m. Feb. 13, Officer Gabriel Trevino was dispatched to Gonzales Memorial Hospital in reference to a possible sexual assault. Accompanied by her caseworker, the victim, a 33-year-old woman, told Trevino she had been sexually assaulted but didn’t know the suspect’s name. However, she also said he wasn’t a complete stranger to her and that they worked together.

Based on the information given, Investigator Jason Montoya drove to La Grange and, with the assistance of the La Grange Police Department and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, was able to identify the suspect through the use of a photo lineup.

County Judge David Bird issued a warrant for the arrest of Jose Mario Tovar, 37, of La Grange.

Police are currently searching for Tovar, and they have received information that he is purposefully avoiding law enforcement.
