Bull riders from across the country and around the world will be making their way to Gonzales this weekend as J.B. Wells Arena hosts it’s annual riding event in conjunction with Professional Bull Rider, Inc. (PBR).

Many of the best riders in the world, and some local talent, will once again be vying for the top spot at this year’s event, which is a part of the PBR’s Pro Touring Series.

This year’s event is headlined by rider Kody Lostroh, who is currently ranked No. 14 in the PBR’s Built Ford Tough Series and 56th in the Pro Touring Series. A native of Longmont, CO, Lostroh won the PBR World Championship in 2009 and was the 2005 PBR Rookie of the Year. Lostroh has earned over $2.8 million in his career and $52,551 so far this season.

Mike Lee is also sure to make a strong showing. The 28-year-old from Decutur is currently ranked No. 18 in the BFTS and No. 22 in the Pro Touring Series. Lee won the PBR world title in 2004, the same year he also finished first at the PBR World Finals. Lee has earned over $52,000 riding so far this season and nearly $2.9 million in his career.

Gonzales’ own Zach Miles will also be vying for the top prize as he continues his first season riding in the senior circuit of the PBR. Miles has earned $1,831.33 riding in PBR sanctioned events in 2011.

This year’s festivities get underway at Pardners Dancehall Thursday with a Calcutta-style auction to raise money for Norma’s House.

The second annual “Rider’s Cup” golf tournament will take place at Independence Park Golf Course at noon Saturday.

The gates to the J.B. Wells Arena open at 5 p.m. Saturday as the pre-show festivities will include live music with the band Southern Voice, a “Fun Zone” for kids (with bounce houses), shopping, food, drinks and a mechanical bull.

The real show gets underway at 7:30 p.m. as the riders take to the arena.

Pre-sale tickets are available at Johnson Oil Company, E. Barr Feeds and the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce at a cost of $18 for adults and $8.00 for children. A purchase of 10 or more adult tickets will receive a 20 percent group discount.

Tickets at the gate Saturday will be $20 for adults and $10 for children (age 12 and under).

Southern Voice will also be providing the music at the official PBR after party at Pardners Dancehall beginning at 10 p.m.
