Commissioners OK Belmont RV park plans

The plat for Belmont Park Estates, an RV park being developed by Belmont resident Richard Walker, is good to go.

Gonzales County Commissioners approved the plat during their meeting Monday morning.

“The operation looks good,” Constable Raleigh Measom said.

“One question I’ve got is on the 911 address,” said commissioner Donnie Brzozowski. “If somebody gets a driveway permit, will you get the 911 address now or are they having to call to get it?”

“Golden Crescent is doing some of them,” Constable Raleigh Measom said. “I’m doing some of them as well. If they pull it off the internet and then call, since we have our meeting with Golden Crescent, people’s response is a hundred percent better. Things are coming together quickly.”

Measom also expressed concerns over the parking situation on the west side of the Belmont Social Club, in particular potential accidents that could occur once the RV Park is completed.

“This is a situation that is only getting worse,” Measom said.

“I know you have been getting calls from people saying they were afraid there was going to be an accident. When the club is full, there are cars parked on both sides of that highway. I worry there could be an accident.”

Measom also informed commissioners that he felt this did not in any way interfere with the plat for the RV Park.

“Since this is a state highway, TxDot should do something about this,” Measom said after the meeting. “I think it would be a good idea for them to build a parking lot.”

The commissioners also voted in favor of keeping road and bridge fees on vehicle registrations the same as it was last year.

“This is the same $10 road and bridge fee we we’re already been charging on vehicle registrations,” said Norma Jean Dubose. “We do not do a $1.50 child crossing charge. I researched it last year and the year before, and it involves far too much bookkeeping and regulations.”

In other business, the commissioners appointed two new members to the Golden Crescent Advisory Committee. Mike Harris and Henry Salas were officially added with the reappointment of the sitting current members.

The commissioners also accepted the gift of 25 loads of gravel from Penn Virginia to help with road maintenance during oilfield traffic in precinct 2.

The McLeroy Land Group, LLC., a company specializing in all land-related matters within a variety of industries like oil and gas, telecommunications and wireless communication, gave the Courthouse Annex a Wi-Fi for a period of one year.

“This is for land men in Gonzales County to do research,” said County Judge David Bird. “This will allow them to hook their computer up to the WI-FI once it is installed.”

Commissioners also voted to increase the fee for commercial non-agriculture driveway permits from $250 to $400, effective July 25, 2011.
