Wildfire readiness program is Thursday

Posted

Many Texans have watched in horror during the drought that has gripped the state as wildfires devastated vast areas. Citizens want to know what they can do to help protect their homes and land.

While nothing known will ensure a home or business from wildfire loss, you can take positive steps now to help protect your property and to facilitate firefighter access and success at your place.

Lexi Maxwell with the Texas A&M Forest Service will provide tips and guidance for wildfire readiness at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at the Fair Street Building, 623 Fair Street in Gonzales (next to Gonzales Elementary School).

Maxwell will discuss what you can do around your home and how to plan for your personal safety in the event you are threatened by wildfire. With folks out this time of year enjoying the spring weather and working around their homes, this is a great time to take a critical look at your state of preparedness. Maxwell will provide tips and guidance on doing what you can to help yourself and your family.

The program is sponsored by the Gonzales Master Gardeners and Gonzales Fire Chief Keith Schmidt.
