GONZALES — A local woman was taken to jail last weekend after she allegedly threw a knife at her boyfriend and injured his arm, officials say.

At 12:40 a.m. April 25, Officer Tyler Wendland was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Carroll St. to assist EMS with a man sitting on the front porch covered in blood, Capt. Allen Taylor reported.

Upon arrival, Wendland spoke with the man who had a severe laceration on his right forearm. The victim’s mother told the officer that the victim’s girlfriend — later identified as Corina Denise Moreno, 27, of Gonzales — had committed the assault. When Wendland where he could find Moreno, the victim refused to divulge any information.

He was subsequently taken to Gonzales Memorial Hospital but refused treatment, leaving the hospital against medical advice.

Officers later located Moreno at her home and found blood at the scene. Moreno told officers she had thrown a knife at the victim and wounded him in the arm in the process. She was then placed under arrest and transported to Gonzales County Jail, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

At 12:20 a.m. April 25, Officer Jonathan Lorton was patrolling the 1400 block of St. Paul when he saw a gray Ford pickup swerving, then turning right without signaling. Lorton pulled the truck over and identified the driver as Joseph Troy Hastings, 27, of Gonzales. The officer could smell alcohol on Hastings’ breath, and noticed he was slurring and unsteady on his feet.

A field sobriety test indicated Hastings to be intoxicated, but when Lorton tried to handcuff him he pulled his arms away. After a brief struggle Lorton was able to take Hastings into custody.

Hastings was taken to Gonzales Memorial Hospital for a blood draw to determine the amount of alcohol in his system. He was later transported to Gonzales County Jail. He is charged with driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest. The vehicle’s passenger was arrested for public intoxication and also taken to Gonzales County Jail.
