Annual Go Texan scholarship fundraiser set for Saturday

GONZALES — Last year nearly $50,000 in scholarships were issued through the Gonzales County Area Go Texan (GCAGT) scholarship fund. These allocations were made possible through the generosity of donors and those who attended the annual Gonzales County Area Go Texas Scholarship Steak Dinner Fundraiser.

It is that time again. The 9th Annual GCAGT Steak Dinner Fundraiser is set for Saturday, Jan. 7 at JB Wells Expo Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. Dinner is served at 7 p.m. and features a ribeye steak dinner with all the trimming, including the association’s famous loaded potato dish, green beans, salad and dessert.

Throughout the night there will be door prizes, as well as a silent auction. At 8 p.m. the live auction begins. The silent auction will end 15 minutes after the end of the live auction.

Auction items include a huge variety of items, such as: a fire pit, a BBQ pit, gift certificates, handmade quilts, a Matagorda Bay fishing trip, a catered meal for 20, a half of beef with processing, handmade knives, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Tickets, Spurs Tickets, and much more.

The event guest list is growing, with a busload of Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo dignitaries coming and more than 400 tickets having been sold.

There are only 450 tickets in circulation and they are available for pre-sale at the scale office, next to E-Barr Feed & Supply, located at 212 St. Louis St. No tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are $30 for an individual or $50 for corporate sponsorships (six or more).

The event is BYOB. Guests may bring ice chests, bottles and mixers with them.

The mission of the GCAGT Scholarship Association is to provide scholarships for Gonzales County Students to advance their education.

GCAGT, a 501c3 non-profit, promotes the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo through ticket sales and show participation. Scholarships are awarded to qualified students of Gonzales County. Net proceeds from this event provide scholarships for Gonzales County Youth who plan to attend Texas universities and trade schools.
