Jr. High Rodeo finals to begin

Posted

Cowboys and Cowgirls from across the state will begin arriving in Gonzales Saturday and all should be here by Sunday at 1 p.m. This year we’ll have 380 contestants. With all the other RVs in the park, there should be over 2,000 individuals living there, a small city on its own. Performances for the rodeos will be held Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The finals will be on Saturday at 11 a.m.

With all the traffic we have in town now, add to this the rodeo contestants and families, so please drive carefully, obeying speed-limit signs and being respectful of others. If we can all slow down and follow these basic rules, Gonzales will be a safer place to drive.

The I-10 Corridor meeting was held recently in Seguin at the newly restored Texas Theatre. Built in 1931, it is now a project of the Seguin Conservation Society which purchased it in 1997. By 2009, 80 percent of the funding was in place and restoration was begun. The theater was built in the tradition of glamorous movie palaces in the Spanish Colonial style with rich textures and colors, ornate panels and intricate carvings with a sky-dome ceiling and shiny stars with a balcony and auditorium. It will accommodate theater, live music, films, dances, receptions, lectures, children’s shows, with backstage areas, rehearsal and dressing rooms.

Seniors will graduate on Friday night and we wish them the best that life has to offer.

The Chamber board will meet on Wednesday and the Farmers market is held each Friday from 4 to 6 on Confederate Square, across from the Old Jail Museum.

The Chamber office and Museum will be closed on May 30 in observance of Memorial Day.
