Scam being conducted on Readers' Choice honorees

Posted

Attention Readers’ Choice honorees! Don’t be fooled! There is a scam being conducted to entice you to purchase an expensive plaque commemorating your selection to the Readers’ Choice annual list of honorees. This is not a program of The Gonzales Inquirer, and is not endorsed by The Gonzales Inquirer.

Your selection to the Readers’ Choice does not require any purchase, especially of a plaque. As the sole sponsor and copyright holder of the Readers’ Choice, The Gonzales Inquirer provides a certificate and door decal to the award recipient to recognize their selection by our readers.

Recently, a firm representing itself as American Registry LLC from Delray Beach, Fla., has contacted those who were selected as Readers’ Choice recipients. The company is offering a plaque for sale at a price of $161.90 (including shipping). Those solicited by email were from an address of xxxxxxx@americanregistry.com and provided a call-back telephone number of 866-964-0866.

The Gonzales Inquirer does not endorse American Registry and did not ask this company to contact Readers’ Choice honorees. The Inquirer has contacted the company informing them that Readers’ Choice is a Gonzales Inquirer promotion only, and informing the company that it is not authorized to sell Readers’ Choice items to anyone listed as an honoree in the Inquirer’s promotion. The email the Inquirer received from American Registry has been forwarded to the Gonzales Police Department for investigation.
